If you’re looking for a warm, lightweight, comfortable, and high-quality mid layer, you might want to consider the Trovat Pro ML Jacket by Mammut. This jacket comes in Black, Chill, and Dark Cyan. Today, I will be reviewing the Black color.
The main construction of this jacket is Polartec Power Wool. So… what even is that? Polartec Power Wool is a natural-synthetic hybrid construction. This allows for better wicking action, higher breathability, faster drying, naturally odor resistant, shape recovery, and easier care. Wow, that’s a lot isn’t it. To be honest, I would agree with almost all of those. The only one I’m a bit iffy on is the odor resistance. After a few uses, it needs to be washed as most jackets do. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it needs to be washed just as often as every other jacket I own that doesn’t have the Polartec Power Wool construction.
As far as pockets/zippers go, this jacket has pockets on the right and left sides. I think Mammut could have easily added a couple more pockets inside the jacket, but since it’s a mid layer, it’s the perfect amount. I really love the way Mammut did the zippers on this jacket. They made the pull strings out of a braided paracord material, and on the zipper pull itself, they have a stiff rubber grip which has the Mammut wording on it. The fact that the Mammut lettering is on the zipper pull, it really tells me that Mammut put the time and effort to add in every detail possible. I absolutely love when companies like Mammut do small things like this.
The main zipper that zips up the jacket is identical to the pocket zippers. I did notice that the main zipper can be a little tough to get started, but once it is started, it’s as smooth as can be.
Moving upwards to the neck of this jacket, you will notice a warm gray strip of material. This not only keeps your neck warm, but it serves as a chin protector.
Moving back down the jacket to the sleeves, you can find the integrated thumb loops. Personally, I’m not a big fan of these, but they are there for the people who are.
Conclusion
All in all, this is great mid layer jacket. With the wool on the inside and the synthetic material on the outside, it makes this jacket very easy to take care of. As far as the placement of the seams, I think Mammut did an outstanding job. The jacket has a nice and comfortable fit. I would say if you don’t enjoy close-fitting clothing, this jacket might not be for you. If you do, then perfect! I was also very surprised (in a good way) by how stretchy the material on this jacket was. I think the stretchiness really adds into the comfortability of the Trovat. So, if you want a mid layer that’s comfortable, breathable, moisture wicking, and easy to take care of, I would highly recommend checking out the Trovat Pro ML Jacket!
