Meet the ultimate duplicate finder for Mac, Gemini! Gemini is another extremely helpful and beautifully designed app from MacPaw.

1. Drag and Drop Folders

There honestly isn’t too much I have to say about Gemini except for it’s super simple and easy to use. That’s a really good thing when we’re talking about duplicate finding software. Lets be honest with ourselves, you got the duplicate finder for one purpose, finding duplicates. When you open Gemini, you can choose to either search for files through Finder, or you can simply drag and drop files into the big circle. After you have selected your destination of choice, you click the Scan button. Depending on how many files you are searching through, the scanning process shouldn’t take but 30 seconds.

2. Scan Process

After the scan is completed, you can see how many GB of duplicates were found. You can also get a more detailed view and actually be able to remove those once you click the Show Results Button.

3. Auto-Select Files for Safe Deletion

Above is what the more detailed screen looks like. There are two main features on this screen which makes Gemini extra easy to use. One is that it shows a pie chart in the bottom left so you can view what types of files are taking up space. The second feature appears once you click the Auto Select button.

Screen Shot 2016-02-05 at 8.32.40 PMIt will place 2 numbers next to every file on the list. The number in grey is the total amount of duplicates you have of that file. The number in red is how many of those duplicates Gemini is going to remove. So… If there is a number 1 in red and a number 2 in grey, it means you have 2 of that file, and Gemini is going to delete 1 of the 2. You can always individually select how many of each you want to keep or remove.

5. Review and Clean

Last but not least is removing those annoying duplicates. This is by far the coolest and most addicting part. Why may you ask? Well, Gemini has a killer animation that makes the files look as if they’re being shredded. I hate to admit this, but I sometimes intentionally create duplicates just so I can see them get shredded.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Gemini is always helpful and handy to have around. There is really nothing I can complain about because it does exactly what it’s advertised to do. You may not know this, but there are probably duplicates on your computer right now that you don’t even know about. Gemini has special algorithms to find those files for you. I’m not saying you couldn’t find those on your own, but it’s much easier to have Gemini find them for you with the click of a button. If you have duplicate files or need to free up space on your Mac fast, I highly recommend you check out Gemini by MacPaw. If you’re not quite ready to purchase Gemini, you can always click here for a free trial.

You can purchase Gemini on MacPaw’s website for $9.99
