All I can say about this monitor is WOW. This thing has a 34 inch, 3440×1440 IPS LED display. For those of you who don’t know what IPS means, it stands for In-Plane-Switching. In other words, IPS allows for a much wider viewing angle of the display. The display also features 7W speakers that actually sound pretty darn good.
The first things I noticed when I took this monitor out of the box was the size. I knew it was going to be 34 inches but I just didn’t realize how big that was until I set it on my desk. To assemble the monitor, all I had to do was put in 2 screws to the base which attaches the display. The monitor is heavy (17.2 pounds) but comes with a good looking, stable base that matches the Mac aluminum finish. On the back side, there is a VESA mount along with HDMI, Display Port, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a DC-In to power this beast. I use the Thunderbolt 2 port with my MacBook Pro. You can actually buy this exact display cheaper if you decide you won’t need the Thunderbolt 2 ports.
This LG monitor also has a stylish chrome finish around the sides. On the front, there is a little blue light that indicates whether the display is on or off. If you don’t like the blue light, you can turn it off in the display settings.
Speaking of the display settings, there is a little joystick on the bottom-side that allows you to control the settings. I was actually quite impressed with the controls and menus on the monitor.
You can control volume, input, brightness, ratio, language, color, and a few other settings.
My favorite feature is LG Screen Split software. You can download it off their website after you get the monitor connected to your computer. The software is available for Mac OS and Windows. I absolutely love this feature because, at the click of the mouse, I can split the windows on my computer to any formation I would like. This feature is VERY handy for multitasking and organization.
Pros:
- 34 inches
- Seamless response time
- Has 2 Thunderbolt ports
- Has 2 USB ports
- Base has a Mac-like aluminum finish
- Easy assembly
- IPS LED
- VESA mount compatible
- Awesome 7W speakers
- Light indicator on the front
- Chrome on the sides of the bezel
- Includes all of the necessary cables
- Has adjustable tilt
- Has controllable interface via the joystick
- You can screen split at the click of a button
Cons:
- No adjustable height
- Sometimes takes a minute to recognize a computer is connected
- You can see pixels if you look up close
In conclusion, this monitor is not exactly for everyone. If you want to do your work more efficiently, this display is for you. It also is great for designers, photographers, and gamers due to the seamless response time and high resolution. If you have the money, need more screen space, and want a monitor that looks good and always works, this is the one.
Nice Monitor
